Author Interview: Emily Gossett

I got a really cool chance of interviewing Emily Gossett; The author of the new book "Awaken Me". You can like her Facebook page, and support her! You can also buy the book at B&N, Amazon, or anywhere they sell books. Here's the direct link to buy her book, though.

Now, for the interview ...

Bookieholics: Can you tell us a little summary of what "Awaken me" is about?
Emily: Awaken Me is a fresh look on the vampires and werewolves we love. They have a make over without loosing their appeal. It's the what happens after high school. A little more adult but keeping it YA. It follows Aimee, a carefree, free spirited girl. She witnesses her fiancé murdering her best friend. Without hesitation she runs away from him, to soon run into her past life where she learns who and what she is. Love, danger, action, betrayal are some of the things you will uncover in Awaken Me.

BH: How did you get the idea of "Awaken me"?
Emily: I actually had a dream and it became the first chapter of my book. As I wrote it became more alive.

BH: What inspired you to write?
Emily: I have been writing screenplays for my indie films I produce and direct so writing has always been apart of me.

BH: What made you want to self-publish than to do it the traditional way?
Emily: as a filmmaker I wanted to own the rights to my books. I had a book agent who had different plans for my book and I realized I wanted to do it my way. I have recently been approached by an executive producer, he would like to make my books into movies. But I'm thinking long and hard about it. Because I wanted to direct my movies. Lol.

BH: When you were little, did you always know you wanted to become an author?
Emily: it wasn't a thought, I began writing screenplays at 16 and wrote several short stories. I just had the idea of Awaken Me jan 23 2011.

BH: When not writing, what do you do in your spare time?
Emily: I am either directing music videos or indie films, the beach, or horse back riding.

BH: Do you have any advice for young writers?
Emily: Don't doubt yourself. If you can dream it, you can do it!

BH: If you were trapped in a boring place, say a dentist's office, what 3 books would you bring?
Emily: Vampire Academy, A Voice in The Wind, and Hush Hush.

BH: Did you help design the front cover of your book? Usually, authors don't have a say in it.
Emily: I take the pictures of my book cover. Awaken Me is my cousin's eye. And the second cover, which is my second book is my brother's eye. I like taking pictures. Then, my good friend edits the pictures.

Make sure you remember to support her!

Thanks guys!

REVIEW: Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare

Title: Clockwork Prince
Author: Cassandra Clare
Pages: 502
Series #: 2
Rating:

Summary:
In the magical underworld of Victorian London, Tessa Gray has at last found safety with the Shadowhunters. But that safety proves fleeting when rouge forces in the Clave plot to see her protector, Charlotte, replaced as head of the Institute. If Charlotte loses her position, Tessa will be out on the street - and easy prey for the mysterious Magister, who wants to use Tessa's powers for his own dark ends.

With the help of the handsome, self-destructive Will and the fiercely devoted Jem, Tessa discovers that the Magister's war on the Shadowhunters is deeply personal. He blames them for a long-ago tragedy to a manor house that holds untold horrors, from the slums of London to an enchanted ballroom where Tessa discovers that the truth of her parentage is more sinister than she had imagined. When they encounter a clockwork demon bearing a warning for Will, they realize that the Magister himself knows their every more - and that one of their own has betrayed them.

Tessa finds her heart drawn more and more to Jem, but her longing for Will, despite his dark moods, continues to unsettle her. But something is changing in Will - the wall he has built around himself is crumbling. Could finding the Magister free Will from his secrets and give Tessa the answers about who she is and what she was born to do?

As their dangerous search for the Magister and the truth leads the friends into peril, Tessa learns that when love and lies are mixed, they can corrupt even the purest heart.

Selena's POV:
To be really honest, I had to put down the book for ten minutes and cry. I'm really emotional, and the book made me cry. Cassandra's books are unique and creative, surrounding a believable world that I want to live in. Just the history background itself for the book is interesting. All the things and research she puts into this book is amazing!

If you didn't read the first book you should, though I'm still moving on with talking about the 2nd book:

In Clorkwork Prince, Tessa and the Shadowhunters are trying to look for the Magister, as the Magister wants Tessa for her powers. Though when trying to achieve that goal, they stumble across some problems . . . and they're pretty BIG! I really must say that Clockwork Prince really surprised me a lot. Just the things the characters did, what they said, made me very surprised. Though it was a good surprised (for me, at least).

Will is probably one of my favorite characters in this book (not like Jem isn't either ...). Will gets my attention by the witty things he says, and just his actions. I mean, who can't like a bad boy? (: Though in Clockwork Prince, you REALLY get to see who he actually is. I don't blame you though if you're still on Team Jem after you read this book.

I'm really happy Cassandra Clare made this book 502 pages long. I ate it up right away! I couldn't put it down! It was just plain amazing :)

If you haven't read ANY of Cassandra Clare's books, then you're missing out on a lot. I recommend you read her books, and you'll fall in love with books all over again!
