REVIEW: Wither by Lauren Destefano

Title: Wither
Author: Lauren Destefano
Series: The Chemical Garden Trilogy
Book #: 1
Pages: 384
Rating:

Summary:

By age sixteen, Rhine Ellery has four years left to live. She can thank modern science for this genetic time bomb. A botched effort to create a perfect race has left all males with a lifespan of 25 years, and females with a lifespan of 20 years. Geneticists are seeking a miracle antidote to restore the human race, desperate orphans crowd the population, crime and poverty have skyrocketed, and young girls are being kidnapped and sold as polygamous brides to bear more children.

When Rhine is kidnapped and sold as a bride, she vows to do all she can to escape. Her husband, Linden, is hopelessly in love with her, and Rhine can’t bring herself to hate him as much as she’d like to. He opens her to a magical world of wealth and illusion she never thought existed, and it almost makes it possible to ignore the clock ticking away her short life. But Rhine quickly learns that not everything in her new husband’s strange world is what it seems. Her father-in-law, an eccentric doctor bent on finding the antidote, is hoarding corpses in the basement. Her fellow sister wives are to be trusted one day and feared the next, and Rhine is desperate to communicate to her twin brother that she is safe and alive. Will Rhine be able to escape--before her time runs out? Together with one of Linden's servants, Gabriel, Rhine attempts to escape just before her seventeenth birthday. But in a world that continues to spiral into anarchy, is there any hope for freedom?

Selena's POV:
I have heard good things about this book, and decided to try it out. It was also at the library, so I just got is anyway. But when I got done with this book, I was just blown away.

In this book, the society is very different. Scientist have found a cure for cancer, and have cure everyone. But what they didn't know is that the offspring of the people who were cured had a very short lifetime, women dying at age 20, men at age 25. Due to this, it had forced everyone into a panic, and worst, forcing women in marriages to have more children.

Rhine is 16 years old when she is kidnapped. She goes to a nice house where she is warm and gets whatever she wants. But she hates everything. She tries to not fall for any of the things they are giving her. At the same time, she wants to escape and find her twin brother who is out there somewhere in the world.

While living at the house, she meets a servant Gabriel, and is suddenly drawn towards him. She wants him to escape with him, but Gabriel is very unsure about that. At the same time, Lindin is drawn closely to Rhine, as she looks just like his last wife. Rhine keeps her distance from Lindin, but finds herself caring and loving him.

I really thought it book was amazing. But it wasn't a book that made me wanna rip my hair out and scream on the top of my lungs *cough, Clockwork Prince, cough*

It was just ... interesting. VERY. Lauren came up with such an amazing society that I felt like I was living it in. It was very realistic, and I just loved it. I also love Lindin. I don't know why, but I just love him.

But I have to say, I was very disappointed in the ending. I thought there would be more to it, but I guess there wasn't.

So if you looking for a good book that is kind of like The Hunger Games or Divergent, this book is for you. I highly advise you to read it. You won't regret it. I promise! :D

REVIEW: Silence by Becca Fitzpatrick

Title: Silence
Author: Becca Fitzpatrick
Series: Hush Hush
Series #: 3
Pages: 448
Rating:

Summary:
The noise between Patch and Nora is gone. They've overcome the secrets riddled in Patch's dark past...bridged two irreconcilable worlds...faced heart-wrenching tests of betrayal, loyalty and trust...and all for a love that will transcend the boundary between heaven and earth. Armed with nothing but their absolute faith in one another, Patch and Nora enter a desperate fight to stop a villain who holds the power to shatter everything they've worked for—and their love—forever.

Selena's POV:

I was REALLY excited to read this book after the emotional Crescendo. But I wad kind of disappointed. :(

We left off Crescendo with a major cliffhanger (Damn, I hate those!). And you start Silence with confusion. Well, at least I was confused. It took me a while until I actually caught what was happening. Something happened to Nora, and that got me confused.

When I was reading Silence, I felt as if I was rereading Hush Hush all over again. It was a good thing and a bad thing. The good thing was that I didn't even remember what happened in Hush Hush because I read it last summer. In Silence, it kind of repeated the information, and I thought it was helpful. But the bad thing was that I felt myself kind of dragging though the first half of the book.

But let me tell you about the parts that were intense and made me wanna throw the book across the room. I liked that Nora wasn't the same, and that she was much braver. But I didn't like that she wasn't the same because every time something we already knew came across the book, and she didn't know it, I wanted to scream and her, and tell her that she KNEW it, and didn't have to act stupid. But that wasn't her fault. (:

I also liked Patch. Period. ;) Hahaa!

* SPOILER AHEAD*

I liked how Patch and Nora ACTUALLY started to get serious and all those other things. I mean, they weren't getting serious serious, but they were moving from where they use to be in Crescendo. And I liked that.

Did I mention I loved Patch, too? ;) <3

Overall, I liked this book, and this is probably my favorite series with other series too. (: If you haven't read this series yet, GET TO IT! It's AMAZING, and you won't regret reading it!
